The Texas Longhorns throttled UTEP 59-3 to start the 2020 season 1-0. Here are some quick thoughts:
Mike Yurchich’s up-tempo offense was on display and struck on the first play of the game with a Sam Ehlinger-to-Josh Moore TD.
Junior WR Brennan Eagles, who did not start, looked off and not ready.
Chris Ash’s defense was great on group tackling. Josh Thompson looked like a natural at CB. The defensive line and linebackers showed depth.
Josh Moore has speed to stretch the defense.
Tarik Black looked like a starter at WR.
The first three possessions rotated Roschon Johnson then Keaontay Ingram then Bijan Robinson at RB. The run blocking needs to improve. Robinson finished with the best yards-per-carry average.
Sam is snapping the ball off faster. He had a career high for passing yards in the first half.
Who’s this Schooler long-haired, West Coast, Pac 12 kid? He made an impact.
The tight ends could make a much bigger impact in this offense.
